The Year in Review

So, I’m one year in as a Bishop, and I feel that I’ve learned a great deal about myself, about the Ward members, and why the Church now requires two men to be placed together in the Primary. No offense, Brother Perkins.

The year in review of what I've learned as Bishop:

Don’t speculate out loud about polygamy or being neutered in the afterlife (TK Smoothie)

Speaking about Satan gets Ward members as excited as a new Jello recipe (That We Could All Be Like - Satan?)

When speaking about stay-at-home-moms, those that stay home love the positive reinforcement, while those that work hate the guilt trip (Staying Home… Again)

We have some great resources to help young men beat (no pun intended) the urge to masturbate (The ‘M’ Word).

Uber-Tithing program a huge boon to the donations (Uber-Tithe Initiative)

Wearing a Speedo at a Ward swimming party is not humorous to most members.

Well, I'm sure I still have much to learn, and I'm looking forward to a productive 2010.

  1. Bishop,

Thank you for the review of your profound spiritual journey this past year! It has been a real pleasure being part of the ward and supporting and sustaining you as my Bishop. I reread each post you provided a link to and thoroughly enjoyed myself--again. The TK smoothie post will forever live in infamy. Bishop, I didn't realize you felt some remourse about wearing the Speedo to the ward swim party. I personally was not offended by the Speedo but I wish you hadn't succumbed to the urge to, ahem, "take out your endowment" in front of the Relief Society President. Even though she is your wife, I think this is inappropriate activity at a ward swim party. You may not have been aware that there were some other ward members in the locker room that "witnessed" the incident. Chalk that one up as another spiritual lesson learned. The incident reminded me of my favorite scripture, which is printed on my missionary plaque. Job 40:16--Behold now, his strength in his loins and his power in the muscles of his belly.

    See you Sunday,

    Monomo

  2. One year down, four to go. (Right? Aren't most bishops called for five years? I knew bishops who were counting down the days about the one year mark.)

  3. Monomo - So much for changing room privacy.

Michael - I started counting down from day one. Only 1433 days left. Wahoo!

  4. Bishop,
I will still be allowed to teach the 14-16 year old sunday school class without a male companion correct? I don't think there have been any problems since I asked out Brother Hanson's daughter last year. In my defense she looks nothing like the girls did when I was 16. Won't happen again promise.
